The Reading Nook: “Life and Recovery of an American Junkie”
Kevin Oney is employed as a server at Serenite Restaurant at The Recovery Center of Medina County, 528 W. Liberty Street, Medina.
After a path that included becoming addicted to drugs in 2011 and time spent in and out of jails, Oney decided it was time for change. He joined the culinary training program at Serenite/RCMC in May 2019. He is no longer ashamed of being an addict and says that while his journey is not one that he would have chosen, he is proud that it has led to his becoming someone who would do anything to help another human being and who loves unconditionally.
“I do want to thank all of you out there that weathered the storm with me, those that loved me even when I couldn’t love myself, those that walked beside me through the nightmare and led me free, thank you to those who could always see the potential and pushed me harder to achieve, and I pray for those that are still walking in the dark. Reach out your hand, we’re here to take hold and lead you through. I really hope you enjoy ‘Life and Recovery of an American Junkie,” ” added Oney.
