“Being Ziggy”

Ziggy Barnett lives with resident Reading Nook author Don Barnett and his family in Hinckley.

Don’s daughter brought Ziggy home when she was a puppy, hoping to find her a good home. Instead, Don adopted Ziggy.

When Ziggy was born, “Ziggy Stardust” by David Bowie was playing on the radio, and her humans decided Ziggy would make a great name. The Barnett family thought so, too, so the name stuck.

That was in 2021 and since then, Ziggy has been working to train her new family, enjoying a big yard and car rides, going on tree-cutting outings with Don (it is Ziggy’s job to make sure Don stays safe), and a nice, warm bed.Ziggy says, “It’s a good life. I think I may be the luckiest dog in the world. Read my column each month to follow my adventures and efforts at training my humans. They really need to increase the number of treats! At least, in my opinion.”
